Dr. Aura Chasteen is a postdoctoral resident at VonOstir Innovation Services. She earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology (Psy.D.) from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota in December 2021. Dr. Chasteen completed an APA-accredited predoctoral internship at the Alaska Psychology Internship Consortium (AK-PIC) and postdoctoral training through the Alaska Tribal Fellowship in Rural Health Psychology, both based in Nome, Alaska.
Dr. Chasteen has worked in the mental health field, in a variety of capacities, for over twenty years. Before enrolling in her doctoral program, she worked as a licensed mortician in Wisconsin and Minnesota for nearly thirteen years, having served more than two thousand families coping with grief. She has provided psychological services to diverse populations in a wide range of settings, including schools, intensive outpatient programs for substance abuse, inpatient hospital units and emergency departments, remote villages in northwestern Alaska, a sex offender treatment program, and private practice.Dr. Chasteen provides therapy and psychological assessment services to individuals 17 and older.
She is experienced in treating a variety of concerns that include substance use disorders, neurodivergence, trauma, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, physical health concerns, relationship difficulties, high-stress jobs, and issues related to gender identity and sexuality. She takes a holistic, culturally responsive, person-centered approach to therapy, and encourages a collaborative therapeutic relationship with her clients. Dr. Chasteen uses a range of therapeutic techniques, including solution-focused therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, skills drawn from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and trauma-informed therapy to flexibly address each client’s unique needs.
